Jocelyne Prince
Dense, Dim, Opaque (2007)
Wall installation
Glass, light
4x3x0.5 meters
Synonyms for stupid (dense, dim, opaque, thick...) are scratched between layers of opaque glass – a skin condition called Bartonella henselae (cat scratch disease) inspired the raw quality of the text. The experience of the work looking casually from a distance and carefully close up are radically different; from a distance the work looks uneventful and bland but on closer inspection words emerge and give a new context to the banal shapes.
